Jemima Kingston grew up in a small country town in Victoria, studied Graphic Design, and went on to work as a designer for RipCurl. Her jewellery designs started as a side project around four years ago, but quickly grew into something much bigger! ‘I started making jewellery at work and friends started purchasing it, so I thought I should give Etsy and Markets a go’ recalls Jemima. It wasn’t long before she had left her full time job behind to focus on her own business.
Innately entrepreneurial, Jemima loves being her own boss. ‘I’m just loving being creative, and working a job where I can decide on my own hours’ she says. ‘It’s great to have flexibility, so as long as I can maintain that I will be happy’.
Jemima’s bright and deceptively intricate handmade earrings have gathered a cult following over the past 12 months. She works incredibly hard, hand forming, assembling and hand painting each component of her designs. She can hardly keep up with demand! ‘I love the use of mixed mediums, and also the idea that every piece is handprinted/handmade so no two are the same’ she says.
We pushed Jemima a little out of her comfort zone for this project, asking her to create a festive hanging decoration, as well as some tableware for our shoot. We were seriously impressed with her creative response!
Taking our cues from Jemima’s distinctive style, we also sourced table linen and ceramics from the following Etsy sellers to complete this look. :
Ceramics vessels by Jemima Kingston and Amelia Kingston
Additional ceramics by Susan Chen Ceramics
Tablecloth by Bind & Fold
‘I loved creating the chandelier and also working with my sister Amelia Kingston to create the ceramic pieces for this shoot’ says Jemima. ‘We also hung out with my Nanna in the process, as she china paints, so it was a real family collab!’.
