We installed the Surround by Laminex timber panels across all the walls, aswell as across the cupboard doors, for a seamless finish. To this, we added tan leather cupboard door handles (from Made Measure), to slightly modernise the look.
The red brick fireplace in this room was quite overbearing – and even though it was in good condition, it really made the room feel smaller. So, we decided to build around it, finishing off with an antique mantlepiece that we picked up second hand. Covering this chimney was a game changer – it makes the room feel so much lighter and brighter. Plus, the addition of the mantelpiece really finishes the look, and provide lots of options for styling with art and objects.
To help make the bedroom feel even bigger, we also swapped out the previous heavy bed frame for a simple bed base, and styled it with a generous throw that covers the end of the bed and skims the floor. We gained almost 30cm more floor space this way (and yes, it’s still a Queen sized bed!).
Finally, we gave the art a bit of a refresh in this room. The homeowners had an existing collection of botanical-inspired artworks, which we reframed, and hung salon-style in a small cluster, to create a focal point in the room.
The end result is both true to the original style of this house, but just slightly refined – a timeless, yet contemporary bedroom, full of personal details.
