The architectural prestige of this mid-century home in Eaglemont has continued with the current owners, Jesse and Georgia Judd. Jesse is an architect and the director of respected firm ARM Architecture, and has applied all of his expertise to renovating his own family home.
This is a personality-filled, expansive home with strong connection to the garden. Jesse has made only limited structural changes, and has retained or reinstated many of the 1950s character elements, like the large windowpanes framed by smaller ones, and functional fireplace. In addition to the main living and dining rooms are two multi-purpose ‘snugs’ (currently used a tv den, and home office/music room). Upstairs, are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an expansive deck fit to host an entire party!
Jesse’s eye for colour is on full display in the bathrooms, with Bisazza glass tiles in green (ensuite), blue (family bathroom) and pink (guest)! But what is most striking, is the colourful treatment of the carport and kitchen wall, inspired by artist Howard Arkley’s Family Home – Suburban Exterior (1993). This iconic Australian painting is reimagined in Euroa glazed bricks, creating a pixelated site-specific artwork.
This Californian case-study home is a dreamy glasshouse, with views across the Yarra Ranges. Even Jesse and Georgia can’t give up the views, and although they are leaving this house, they are remaining in the area. Step into a slice of local architectural history, where mid-century modern is reimagined for the now!
