The new ‘Textural’ soft furnishings range from Byron Bay based homewares brand Pampa expands on their earlier ‘Monte’ collection, bringing robust texture to a palette of stone whites, greys, browns and deep beige tones. The new additions of knitted cushions add a rich tactile element, channeling the 70s, with oversized tassels and cable knit details.
Co-founder and designer Victoria Aguirre describes how the collection has been inspired by a ‘sense of play’ evident in the texture and pattern of the 70s, when people ‘had the confidence to take design risks.’ There is a gentle nod here to the shag pile carpets, and cosy log cabins adorned with vintage woollies!
Like all Pampa products, this range has been designed in Byron Bay and made in remote Argentina. Victoria explains ‘our rugs are ethically hand-spun and hand-loomed, with 100% sheep’s wool by our artisan partners in their homes and workshops.’ Each piece retains a handmade quality, and shows the skills of the makers.
The dyes Pampa uses are typically natural pigments of plants, flowers, vegetables, insects and smoke – and truly reflect the natural palette of the location. The weaving is completed by cooperative groups who share resources and knowledge, and Victoria explains ‘often take turns to complete one piece.’ In drawing on the local knowledge and skills of the Argentinian craftspeople, the Pampa range is further textured with the layers of this process, and a rich sense of place.
