3. Daily Blooms Flower Subscription Melbourne or Sydney
Alice Johnson, Partnerships Manager
This flower subscription is the gift that keeps on giving, with a new bouquet arriving on my Mum’s doorstep every week to remind her how much I love her!
Daily Bloom select flowers fresh each day, so, the bouquet will be different each week, and Mum will always get the freshest (and most beautiful) blooms!
Available online, $28 per delivery (weekly or fortnightly)
4. ‘Two Rooms – Night and Day’ by Peter Cole, from Say PEACE! Posters
Sally Tabart, Editorial Assistant
I still remember in vivid detail the Christmas my Mum announced to the extended family that we would no longer be exchanging gifts. Instead, we were encouraged to donate to those less fortunate than us on behalf of one another. I clutched my brand new Spice Girls backpack in fear.
20 years later, I’m eternally grateful to my Mum for talking sense into me at such a young age, and while she still has no desire for gifts beyond a card, I think she’d appreciate the charitable element behind Say PEACE! Posters.
Artists have donated prints which are sold in editions of 50, with all profits going directly towards UNICEF Australia’s Syria Crisis Appeal. I chose this one by Peter Cole because it reminds me of my family home’s colour scheme (yes, the exterior was a medley of yellow, red, black and silver!).
Available online, $149 .
5. The Australian Ballet’s ‘The Merry Widow’ Tickets
Miriam McGarry, Researcher / Writer
I’ve actually never been to the ballet, but ‘The Merry Widow’ looks like a real afternoon delight of spectacle and flourish.
‘The Merry Widow’ doesn’t sound super Mother’s-Day-appropriate (!), but the tale is a lighthearted romp of love affairs, jealousy and wealth. Kind of a historic Bold and the Beautiful – but with far, far better costumes and considerably more athleticism.
This is partly a present for Mum, and partly for me (as long as she takes me as her plus one…).
Available online, from $35 per person. Showing in Sydney until May 19th, Canberra May 25th to 30th, and Melbourne June 7th to 16th.
