Designed by Matt Lorrain of Australian furniture brand SP01, Salon Mace is a sophisticated, feminine and unmistakably luxe space. Situated in what was previously a milk bar, the salon’s interior has been significantly updated to make way for a bright, open plan space characterised by chalky, whitewashed walls, a soft pink / teal blue palette, marble details and brass accents.

‘I wanted to inject a bit of ‘SoCal’ (Southern California) style into the salon; encaustic tiles, whitewashed walls and highlights of luxurious materials like marble, brass and velvet’ explains Matt.

The distinctive Californian Spanish style arch was an existing element in the space, which Salon owners Felicity Mace and Damien Cameron were keen to retain and enhance – this motif also features within the company’s branding.

Aside from the shop’s restored Victorian features, almost everything here is custom made. That includes the arched mirrors framed in brass tubing, the bespoke velvet banquette, and the feature wallpaper on the back wall. Shinyshadows Suspension Lamps by Stephanie Marin (from Poliform) suspended over the front counter add an ethereal finishing touch.
