When likeminded creative people come together, great outcomes are inevitable. The newly conceived Melbourne Ceramics Market is one such outcome, the brainchild of two passionate local makers – Daisy Cooper of Daisy Cooper Ceramics, and Tina Thorburn of Clay by Tina.
Daisy is a UK-born maker, who relocated to Melbourne last year, and wasted no time in setting up a studio in Brunswick, quickly securing stockists across Australia. She also teaches ceramic workshops at various locations around Melbourne.
Tina Thorburn of Clay by Tina creates from her idyllic farm studio just outside Geelong. Her work can be found at Mosey Store in Melbourne, and Meet Gather Collect in Canberra amongst others.
The pair came together late last year, after a ‘crazy Christmas season’, and were keen to share insights and ideas. ‘Almost in the same breath we expressed an interest in creating a market that put emerging ceramists in direct contact with ceramic enthusiasts,’ Daisy recalls. ‘Between us, we had done a range of markets and felt that this niche needed filling. We thought, why not connect the makers directly with people who love and appreciate the craft?.’
The inaugural Melbourne Ceramics Market will showcase 27 ceramicists, amongst them, TDF faves including Ella Bendrups and Ghost Wares. Having now reached capacity, the organisers are already planning a second event later in the year – watch this space!
