Alicia Sciberras is an emerging stylist. A really good one. She hasn’t been on the professional circuit for long, but already Alicia has amassed an impressive list of clients including Cult Design, NOMI, Adam Goodrum, Bar Pho and Inside Out Magazine. She’s the type of versatile creative who always thinks outside the square, creating incredible scenes where furniture appears to levitate mid-air, and even soup looks sexy!
Alicia never intended to be a stylist, having originally studied Fine Arts at Sydney College of the Arts, majoring in sculpture. ‘I had a keen interest in installation art, and I think this is what led to understanding the presence each object can command’ she says. Having developed a critical mind and sense of spatial awareness at uni, and with a growing interest in image-making, Alicia soon found herself drawn to object-based styling.
Upon graduating, Alicia landed an internship, followed by a job as editorial assistant at Habitus Magazine. ‘This was my golden ticket!’ admits Alicia. ‘I was soon offered pages to style, and I ran with it’ she says. Much of Alicia’s earlier work was editorial, but eventually opportunities for commercial freelance gigs started to build up, and she went out on her own. Today she splits her time between working as a freelance stylist and as an assistant to Megan Morton.
Alicia’s work is varied, spanning interiors, lifestyle and food. She delights in creating images that are a little unexpected. ‘I don’t like just placing pretty objects all together!’ she explains. ‘Good styling is a juggling act that always needs slight imperfections.’ Her aim is simple – ‘I want to make things interesting, beautiful and liveable’ she says.
