Ain’t no secret we are big fans of Melbourne illustrator / graphic designer Georgia Perry. We love her bold use of colour and endlessly cheerful aesthetic – you might recall her work from the custom FIAT she designed for our Open House event last year!
Georgia’s latest personal project is a series of super cute enamel pins, which she has been designing since late last year. ‘I’ve always loved collecting enamel pins – they feel slightly nostalgic to me… a bit like lost souvenirs!’ says Georgia of the inspiration for this range. Our faves are her ‘celebrity’ pins – featuring pop culture icons like Oprah, Kim and Kanye and Larry David.
‘I’m a little obsessed with pop culture. Between work, the internet, TV, Netflix… It’s basically impossible to escape from it!’ Georgia explains. ‘I just thought it would be funny to distill some of those ubiquitous names and faces into an accessory you can wear. They’re kind of like tiny emblems of a point in time and culture. And a great conversation starter!’
Georgia says she’s been really chuffed and quite surprised at the great response to her enamel pin range, but frankly, we’re not surprised at all. These make such an awesome little gift, and they’re only $19.95 each!
Aside from immortalising random celebrities in wearable form, Georgia is also doing a bunch of proper cool illustration work right now too. She just got back from the USA, where she was selected to exhibit her pattern and surface designs at Surtex, a massive art licensing trade fair in New York! That’s a pretty big deal. She has also just finished illustrating a book – a colouring book for grown ups! It’s called ‘Full Colour’ and will be available in shops in November. She particularly excited about this project. ‘I think when we grow up a lot of people deny their inner child and creativity, so I’m hoping Full Colour will help people tap back into that happy place!’ she says.
