Simone Haag of Hecker Guthrie is back today with a special edition of Hunt / Gather, in collaboration with HG Senior Interior Designer Angela Harry. Both Simone and Angela are expectant Mums, just a few short weeks off welcoming their bundle of joys into this world! So with all things baby on their minds, who better than two design-savvy mums-to-be to share some inspired finds for decorating the nursery. To be honest, there are more than a few items in here with serious grown-up appeal too! – Lucy
There must be something in the mineral water at
Hecker Guthrie because in recent months four ladies from our team have fallen pregnant - me included! As a result Paul Hecker has well and truly retracted his usual theory that 'a sexually active workplace is a happy one' - there is now an abstinence policy in place!
With all things baby on our minds, today's post is a collaborative effort between myself and long standing Senior Interior Designer at Hecker Guthrie Angela Harry, who is one month away from entering motherhood (For me, it's two weeks before Baby Haag enters the world!). We've aimed to keep this edit pretty sophisticated and well rounded, so that it can be enjoyed by those expecting and those not, or archived for future baby plans! –
Simone
1. ERCOL Chairmakers Rocking Chair available from Temperature Designs – An English classic, the ERCOL Chairmakers Rocking Chair is a classic rocker. Probably appreciated more by Mum than baby, this elegant addition to the nursery will transition seamlessly into grown up bedrooms.
2. The O Series wall hooks by Interia (prices range from $50.00-$125.00 AUD) – The O series wall hooks are designed and handcrafted by Tasmania-based design studio Interia. Made from salvaged solid timber off-cuts in classic, simple shapes, they make for a refined addition to any childs' space. We love the soft, transparent coloured timber stains, and the fact that just like a bun in the oven, they take a little time because they are made to order! Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery.
3. Memory Ceiling Lights by Borisa Klimek for Brokis, available from Huset ($395 each) - These ‘Memory’ wall and ceiling lights designed by Boris Klimek for the Czech manufacturer Brokis take the form of helium balloons - the string is the on and off cord. Available in nine great colours, these sweet feature lights would add a touch of whimsy and humour to any space - not limited to the nursery!
4. Flower Weave Rug by Armadillo & Co available from Hunting For George ($255.00 AUD) – Pretty and petite with playful coiled petals, this sweet floor rug combines a soft colour palette with natural woven fibres. It's handcrafted from braided, hand stitched soft Bangladeshi hemp.
5. MILK NA1 Light from Great Dane ($395) - Designed by Denmark-based NORM architects, The MILK light is inspired by traditional Nordic milking stools. Contemporary in style, with a respectful nod to traditional Scandinavian detailing, this friendly little piece exudes character. It features three untreated oak legs, soft opal glass and a woven fabric flex cord.
6. Olympic hooks / coat hanger by Eno Studio available from Made in Design (157.00 GBP) – Seen and loved by the Hecker Guthrie team at MAISON&OBJET in Paris earlier this year, the Olympic hooks by Eno Studio are a fresh take on the common wall hook. Whether used functionally or simply as a decorative feature, there's no question they look beautiful hanging as a cluster on the wall.
7. Bau Deco Poster from Ferme Living (€25.00) - These art deco inspired typographic posters are available in every letter of the alphabet. With a little imagination these prints offer an easy and affordable way to add your child's name or initials to the wall or door of their bedroom.
8. Altalena Swing by La Clinica Design (300.00 Euros) – Designed in Spain, the Altalena Swing chair comes flat packed and is easy to assemble in just six steps / pieces. The rope length can also be altered, so you can install it just about anywhere. Hand crafted from natural materials – pine, leather and rope, the swing chair is on our wish lists. Grandparents to be, take note!
9. Howdy Owl available from Menu Design Shop ($99.00 USD) – The Howdy owl designed by Norwegian designers Andreas Engesvik and StokkeAustad is carved from one piece of lime wood. It is a simple decorative piece that appeals to kids and adults alike.
10. LED paper lantern by Rina Ono available from Mr Kitly ($75.00 AUD) – Skilfully made following Japanese paper craft traditions, these battery-powered LED lanterns would make a beautiful night light for baby’s room. Being cordless they can be taken anywhere - useful for the midnight hallway shuffle.
11. Metal suitcases by House Doctor available from Nelson+Co (approx $300.00 AUD for two suitcases) – Also spotted by the Hecker Guthrie team at MAISON&OBJET in Paris earlier this year were House Doctor’s pastel metal suitcases with copper fixings. Serendipitously, the large suitcase fits perfectly in the bottom of the IKEA Sniglar change table.
12. Artwork by Esther Stewart, represented by Utopian Slumps. - If budget allows, investing in an original artwork is a wonderful way to mark the occasion of a new arrival in the family, and will hopefully become a treasured heirloom handed down through generations. It's also a great opportunity to support an emerging Australian artist! A painting by Melbourne artist
Esther Stewart is the focal point of our newly decorated nursery at home.
13. Toy wooden camera available from Hunting for George ($28.00 AUD) – This sweet wooden toy camera is hand crafted from natural pine and finished with an aged leather neck strap.
14. Pieces N Play dominos by Hay available from Corporate Culture (Under $100.00 AUD) – You can’t go past Hay for stylish decorative pieces with broad appeal, such as these ‘Pieces N Play’ dominos, which would make a colourful installation in baby's room.
15. IKEA PS 2014 Rug from IKEA ($199.00 AUD) – Just one part of the exciting new range from the IKEA PS 2014 collection, this pure new wool rug is graphic, gender neutral and downright lovely!
16. Ludde sheepskin throw from IKEA ($59.00 AUD) – Every house could do with the IKEA Ludde sheepskin to cosy up sleeping and sitting areas, especially with winter around the corner. For longevity in the nursery we prefer soft grey over white / cream tones.
17. Georgia cot by Incy Interiors ($1099.00 AUD) – A crafted timber spindle cot with a distressed vintage look, the Georgia cot can come in a white finish, or amazingly you can match it perfectly to your other nursery pieces with a custom Dulux paint colour!
Big thanks to Simone and Angela - best of luck for the weeks and months ahead as you welcome your new little people into the world!
