Patterned Rugs

Rugs offer endless ways to bring colour and pattern to a room. Something like the handmade New Tulu Rug by Loom is a bold statement piece, featuring an eye-catching zig-zag design that could inject personality into a simple living room with muted walls and lots of timber furniture.

But patterned rugs aren’t reserved just for maximalists. The Silk Road rug by Jenny Jones offers a more subtle design of gold abstract lines — portraying the winding ancient route of the historical Silk Road — set against a tonal pastel backdrop.

The Penny Rug by Jardan is another playful option that doesn’t overwhelm a space. The geometric stripes are crafted from New Zealand wool, dyed in contrasting colours that nod to the Art Deco era.

Classic Rugs

Handmade rugs have an inherently luxurious feel, largely thanks to the artisanal craftsmanship it takes to create one. We love how the Agra Rug by Armadillo showcases the timeless elegance of the traditional hand-knotted technique in a deep-cut pile, available in a deep midnight blue.

Silvio by Weave is similarly sophisticated with a chic micro-fringe detail. A solid colourway like the Ecru is simple but rich in texture and would be best kept in a serene space like a bedroom — and away from any dirty footprints! Plus, imagine feeling the plush New Zealand wool underfoot first thing in the morning when you step out of bed?

Coastal Rugs

Our favourite coastal homes are filled with natural textures, which is why a woven rug is the perfect finishing touch for a calming beach house interior. Take the Bundeena Rug by King Living for example — named after the seaside village in NSW — that features a mix of wool and jute fibres in beautiful sandy-coloured tones.

A jute rug like Umbra by Weave is another classic coastal piece, perfect for styling a pared-back living room, entryway, or even at the edge of a bed. The flat weave has an organic feel and we love how the dark stripes break up the otherwise neutral base.
