Mast is a furniture business focused on timeless design and quality craftsmanship, perhaps most well known for their Title Beds with steam-bent headboards. The team make all their furniture from a workshop in Brisbane’s North. With a few years of diverse experience now behind them – both making AND designing – Mast is embarking on the next stage of their journey with the opening of a brand new showroom in West End.

‘We all felt ready to take that next step of having our furniture in a physical space that represents us, and have it be more of a Mast “home”. Online has really taken us as far as it’s going to in terms of directly relating with customers,’ explains Kati Morgan, Mast’s Business Development and Showroom Manager.

Kati and her husband, Rory Morgan, Mast’s Lead Designer and Maker, originally set up the business in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast. In mid-2017 they relocated to Brisbane as demand for their furniture began to grow. The other core member of the team is Christian Hakansson, who until recently had been studying furniture in Denmark and completing an apprenticeship with Mast; he’s now the business’s third owner.

Located on vibrant Montague Road, the Mast showroom sits within a building that’s been completely renovated in the design hands of Vokes and Peters (who TDF last featured here). The polished space retains the industrial feel of the original building, with high ceilings and exposed steel trusses. Here, Mast’s ‘hero’ designs, including the Title Bed 04, will be mainstays, whilst newer pieces will rotate several times a year. A select range of homewares will also feature – Kati has curated these based on makers she’s ‘fallen in love with’ during travel experiences around the globe.

‘We’ve tried to create a space that’s minimal but interesting,’ tells Kati. ‘Timber is great for bringing warmth to a clean aesthetic, and of course we’ll have plenty of that. Having a space to host our customers in will be amazing!’ Mast shares the building with some exciting neighbours too, including Milani Gallery, Vokes + Peters, and Georgia Cannon Interior Design – a hub of creativity!
